NYCC 2016: Kirkman Says Glenn Was Meant To Die Much Earlier

Robert Kirkman addressed a large audience of his fans during the Walking Dead panel at NYCC. This wasn’t the panel for the show, but the comic book. But since the show lifts so much from it, nearly everything he revealed had repercussions for both shows, so….

One big reveal? Kirkman confessed in the comics, Glenn was supposed to die even earlier than he did. In fact, the entire issue regarding Glenn’s original death had been written and the cover created when Kirkman changed his mind, deciding to save Glenn’s demise for “a special event.” That event was the 100th issue and the introduction of Negan. “It was always supposed to be Glenn. Glenn was supposed to die earlier in the comic but then I changed my mind.”

Kirkman also said he knows exactly what caused the initial zombie outbreak, but he’ll never reveal it. It will never be told in the comics or either of the shows currently running, and the reason? He claims the secret would make things “too sci-fi.” It’s not nanobots, is it?

Finaly, Kirkman revealed to the audience that a major, beloved character in the Walking Dead universe would be meeting their end in issue 159. If you don’t want to know who, avoid the following spoiler below, but I will tell you it’s a female…
