As many of you gumshoes and gumboots know, the Writer's Guild of America is in the middle of less than stable negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producer poops. If they do not reach an agreement by May 1st, when their current contract ends, a strike will ensue beginning May 2nd.

The last strike, 10 years ago, lasted 100 days, and completely halted the writing of scripted programming of shows written by members of the Guild. Like The Walking Dead. If the strike goes forth, it begins at a most inconvenient time for TWD. Just before the start of Season 8 filming. Its likely that only the first few episodes of S8 are in the final script stages.

So, starting Monday April 10th, the two groups will meet for continued negotiations for 5 days. If they don't reach a deal by the end of this 5 day negotiation, then the guild will declare the strike, to begin on May 2.

This thread is to keep us updated on the progress.

And I could not believe that my spell check didn't flag 'gumboots', so I used google to determine why:

I present to you, Cape Town's rendition of the Gumboot Dance:

Even if the writers go on strike , there shouldn't be any problem producing the garbage gang dialogue. Run Jadis Run. Run Run Run.

Good gawd, Kirkman and Gimple foresaw the impending writers' strike and created characters that don't need writers. They're playing chess while the rest of us are playing checkers.

It would be a shame if the season gets shortened (or maybe even cancelled if the strike drags on) but I support the writers. Shorter season shows are going to become the norm so the writer's pay should be adjusted to make up for that. This seems like common sense. Writers don't get the respect they deserve. Without them there's no content and writers are just as important as the actors.

Also TWD is gonna be delayed because I seriously doubt they will increase the writers salaries.

But lets hope for the best. These updates will have me worried.

Man they need to work that out. I know a boat load of shows would be affected, but TWD is the only one I'm concerned about with this. We got so long to wait as it is. This crap could push shooting back for months. Maybe even cause a shorter season 8 if filming constraints prevent a complete season. Me shudders at the thought of it.

I wouldn't be so quick to call these writers selfish for wanting new terms. Television has changed tremendously in recent years, greatly effecting the compensation these people get.

I am sure they probably pushed them to get scripts done waaaay in advance. But who knows what stage they are at.
When I was a Union member...I thought Unions were great.
Now I often think they suck.

If I remember correctly, wasn't the last writers strike one reason Reality TV grew so much? At the time the idea was to not have them as scripted... so I think the horrible genre exploded.
