The 90s were an interesting decade for music because you had the bubble gum songs (as always) but then genres like R&B/Rap were becoming more mainstream, country was becoming more mainstream, grunge rock hit the scene- which then paved the way for other forms of alt rock to become more popular later in the decade. Even glam metal/hair bands maintained some degree of relevance early on in the decade.

I could tune in to the local "Top 40" station at any time and hear Garth Brooks followed by Nirvana followed by Vanilla Ice followed by Def Leppard followed by Boys 2 Men followed by Metallica followed by Wilson Phillips, all within one freaking hour!

If your ear drums went through puberty, that's what it would look like.

You’re right! I’m really happy to have most of my childhood in the 90’s for that reason. Not only was I listening to my parents’ music from the 60’s and 70’s with them, but I got to experience the variety from the 90’s. It’s so hard to answer anyone when they say “what type of music do you like?” Well...music...I like music. lol

Okay I need to preface this selection with a disclaimer. This song, while not one I actually enjoy, does always remind me of a guilty pleasure movie that I watch every damn time it is on the telly....yep, I am talking about the Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston classic bit of cinema known as "Rock Star". I admit it, I freakin' LOVE that movie LOL and I love that during the end credits of the movie the crew breaks out into dance to this Marky Mark song "Good Vibrations"

Factoid: Frontman Gregg Alexander and band member Danielle Brisebois were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for the movie Begin Again (2015). Which BTW is a relaxing and enjoyable movie to watch on a lazy Saturday or Sunday.

This song is one of the rare instances where the remake rivals the original.

And the 90s had three remakes that garner (IMO) such praise...the other two follow

    Great remake #2
Politics aside Sinead O'Connor elevated this Prince penned song beyond the original which was recorded by the Prince side project The Family

    Great remake #3
Dolly wrote a beautiful song and she also recorded the song BUT it was (again IMO) Whitney Houston who took it to another level - seriously, her rendition is pop perfection

Sometimes an artist is one of the most popular ever because the public is right:
