I still remember the first horror movie that I watched. There was a video tape in a video store that was haunted. Anyone who watched the video would become part of the movie; they would see themselves on TV and would become possessed to kill anyone who came into the room. I was so afraid I would also become part of the movie because I was watching it too.

I remember staying up late on Friday and Saturday nights back when there were only four channels to choose from and watching the Universal monster movies. The Wolf man was always my favorite. Lon Chaney did such a great job as a sympathetic monster. I loved all those old movies and still do. I remember popping popcorn and settling in for a night of The Mummy, The monster from the Black Lagoon, old bloody Hammer films with Peter Cushing. I miss old school horror like that.

The first 2 'horror' movies i saw were The Gremlins and Child's play in December around christmas time.
Those movies are actually the first ones that i remember, even before i saw the Lion King.
So that means i would be 5 or 6 when i saw my first horror movie.
And i saw it together with my dad and i asked him lots of questions (can i get a gremlin dad? :p)

Let me take you back a few years to Sunday afternoons with The Fear Theater. Gems like "Creature from the Black Lagoon", "The Blob", "Tarantula", and my favorite from that time - "Them"...

This one pretty much scarred me as a child.

I honestly can't remember my absolute first horror film, but I've got a feeling this would have been it. Either Night or one of the classic Universal Monster flicks.

I popped my horror cherry with "Child's Play" and "Hellraiser". My mom accidentally rented them from the video store one day, I watched both before she could realize her mistake.:zombies_lol:

Accidentally as in she thought they were kids movies? Child's Play I might understand, but I don't see how Hellraiser could be mistaken for one. :zombies_lol:

While not the actual "first" I think Critters would have to be up there too. I can vividly remember that one as a kid.

I know she rented Child's Play by accident, I think Hellraiser didn't happen in the normal accident sense. It was a mix up where she was given the wrong movie, and didn't realize it until later on. Back in those days, vhs rentals would come in a clear snap box? Or a colored one that was either black or white. And you couldn't see the label on the movie. And many times people would be handed their vhs rentals by the clerk, only to get home and realize that it was someone elses movie or a movie they accidentally grabbed out of the back because sometimes it wasn't placed under the correct alphabet.

Yeah I remember those old days of renting VHS'. Just hopefully the rental store was careful enough to keep the porn separate from the regular movies. Otherwise some kids might've learned about the "birds and the bees" from Ron Jeremy. :zombies_lol:

Speaking of renting VHS movies, I remember the good ol' days of renting movies and then hooking up two VCR's to make my own copy. Probably 95% of my collection was made up of those copies....

The Exorcist is the first horror movie I remember seeing. It might not be the absolute first, but it is the first one that really had an effect on me and on my mental state. I'm still terrified when watching it and feel weak and uncomfortable from beginning to end.

Yeah, my first job was at a video store in the eighties. Sometimes we were a little too busy munching on popcorn and watching a new release to make sure the bar codes on the cases matched up with the title on the VHS tape. The best part though was watching the guys in the adult room trying to make their choices ( smile, you're on camera). Even better was when the chronic porn guys would bring back 1, 2, 3 movies and claim they didn't work. These guys always came in early in the day. Who knows why. I would just pop the videos in and ask them when the malfunction occurred. Promise you these guys were totally cowed. Fun times.

My first horror movie was The Blob, I stayed awake all night watching the gap underneath my bedroom door.

Hush..Hush, Sweet Charlotte ~ great cast with Bette Davis from 1964

An old B&W movie that I saw when I was real little and scared the crap out of me. There was scenes were people get their arms/hands chopped off with an axe, I couldn't sleep with my arms outside the covers for a while after that. lol
