Epic Accidentally Released A Test Item In Fortnite v4.2
What is Epic Games working on in regards to future collectible items in Fortnite? We got an unintentional taste on Tuesday when they accidentally included an item still in development within Fortnite v4.2. What was it?
Version 4.2 features the debut of a rumored collectible fans have been clamoring for — the jetpack. the jetpack introduced a whole new item slot called “backpacks” and took the place of any equipped back bling, though temporarily. The jetpack lets you fly upwards by hitting the Jump button while already in midair — but you can’t attack while performing the move, and you can only Jet a limited number of times before the item has to recharge. According to Epic, the jetpack will only be around for a limited time.
The jetpack might have taken up the majority of this week’s Fortnite-related news if not for Epic’s snafu. Eventually players started finding an unadvertised item called the “Eye of the Storm Tracker.” Its purpose seemed to be to track where the next safe zone would be, giving the player a little advance warning.
“The Storm Tracker was an idea that was being tested for one of those backpacks,” confessed Sean Hamilton, community coordinator for Epic Games, in a Reddit post. “This was not intended to make it into the Fortnite v4.2 Content Update and we can’t promise this will ever officially be released. However, we do hope those who get their hands on it had fun while it lasted.”
As the man said, this may have been the only time anyone will ever see the Eye of the Storm Tracker in Fortnite. But we now know at least two purposes for the “Backpacks” slot.
