PUBG Mobile Version Now Available In The US

by on 03/19/2018

Did you assume the PUBG mobile version would remain a Chinese exclusive? To be honest, so did we. Does the new US mobile version measure up to its console and PC cousins?

It’s true: Bluehole pulled a surprise international launch of PUBG on iOS and Google Play this week. It went live in Canada over the weekend and it became available in the US today. The mobile version can do anything the big-boy versions can do, albeit with reduced textures and graphics. Voice chat is even supported. The only disadvantage will be trying to control this game via touch — it helps if you own an attachable controller of some sort, that is if you can get it to work.

Reviews of the mobile version are already out and they’re mostly positive. Kotaku calls it “a surprisingly robust port” and says “if you’re really craving some PUBG on the move, this does a great job of scratching that itch.”

“We are very excited to launch PUBG Mobile on iOS and Android internationally,” said Chen Jerry, Corporate Vice President of Tencent and President of Lightspeed Quantum Studios Group. “We are working hard to create an authentic PUBG mobile experience that players new and old will love. A lot of went into controls and optimization to give players a smooth and intuitive experience.”

The competition is right on its heels: a mobile Fortnite: Battle Royale launched just last Wednesday. However, Fortnite is only compatible with iPhones 6S and up, while PUBG will run on a 5S (they highly recommend at least a 6 though).

You can download PUBG for free on the App Store here, or on Google Play here.
