Several of Rick’s final lines as Season 7A came to a close earlier this month seemed to indicate he’s had his fill of being Negan’s lapdog. But what does the showrunner have to say about that?
Showrunner Scott Gimple offered some comments and hints to Comicbook.com regarding Season 7B, and while he doesn’t say outright that Rick and his pals start fighting back, he does confirm the second half will feel different from the first. Given that our heroes have spent most of this season grovelling at Negan’s feet, this will be welcome news for fans.
“I will say 7B’s vibe is very different from 7A’s vibe. The ending of 7B is very different than the beginning of 7A,” said Gimple. “Just the vibe in 7B, I was just talking about it with Andy [Lincoln] last night. It’s just a very, very different half season than the half season that preceded it. Even with structure, what we’re doing right now with the episodes and seeing where everyone is at, the structure is very, very different than the back half.”
Gimple went on to say the final scene of 7A is indeed intended as foreshadowing. “I would say the end of 7A is very different than the beginning of 7A. That’s the thing that kind of launches that different tone of 7B.”
