I saw the videos! I have to agree with Cinema Sins--so many sins pointed out that I overlooked when I saw Home Alone as a kid! NC was totally on point about The Cat in the Hat. I saw that movie in the theaters...it was godawful! I hated it--it was terrible on so many levels! Ihaven't seen the video for The Purge yet as I want to see the movie first.

I can understand and respect that you are a cultural Muslim. As you become older, you start to question your faith and really see what you can integrate into your life, such as the 5 prayers and also holding traditional values, while also eliminating what you find to be hateful.

Hi! How do you like the new layout? It will take time to get used to it. I was going to "comment" in response to what you wrote to me, but I'm used to going to your page to respond. I hope we can chat sometime in the "Shoutbox".

That sounds like very good weather. Not too warm, not too cool.

LOL@Shadow snow. It stays where the sun can't get it. We had 5-6 inches of snow here. I slipped and busted my butt!

Good for you for exercising! I'm the same way--have some extra meat on me. Roller-skating and exercise DVDs usually do the trick for me. It's also great way to take care of yourself, increase your energy and health.

Does Islam have different denominations? Christianity has tons of different subsets. Maybe right now, you are doing your own spiritual search and journey to find out what you believe about God. And hopefully one day your father will understand and respect where you're at. So far, based on what you shared about being a cultural Muslim--you are making your faith into your own. That's a great thing!

Ohhh I love Nostalgic Critic. I need to see "The Purge". I'll definitely watch Cinema Sins for Home Alone. I love CS! Poor Maculay Culkin. His childhood fame didn't follow him into adult hood. :(

LOL you tried walking through a blizzard?! Those are no joke! :-) That's okay you were 5 years old so you didn't know better. We had snow here this past Saturday. It was fun!

I don't like heat either. I read also in your FFN profile that you enjoy autumn. Me too! Autumn is the best!

Yes, this is the season to "eat as much as you like!"

Thank you for explaining to me about "Haram". I'm still learning! Do you ever consider returning to Islam?

Thank you for saying hi to me! I wrote you back on FFN, but there are some other messages of yours I need to respond to. I clicked the link, but didn't see the video. There are lots of Shane videos popping up! :-)

You're welcome and you are special!! <3

We had some snow today, but not too much. Do you get a lot of snow where you are? I don't mind the cold (to an extent). I can understand why your father would hate it. Saudi Arabia has much higher temperatures.

How was it with your cousins? Yes, it was lots of fun! It was also great to have the next day off, since Christmas and New Year's fell on a Sunday this year.

What is haram? I'm still learning!

That's okay, just wanted to check on you.

I hope you feel much better. This weather has been warm, then cold, warm cold, cold warm. I don't blame you for not going to the library when you're sick.

Thank you! It was a nice Christmas. I visited some family upstate (not too far) and I spent Christmas Eve with my boyfriend.

Do you still celebrate and birthdays now? Did anyone give you a hard time when you were Muslim and celebrating birthdays and Christmas?

As you can imagine, "right-to-die" brings up many ethical, moral, spiritual, personal, etc questions/concerns/dilemmas. If you google "Brittany Maynard" ---that's a recent case of a young woman (aged 29) chose to move to Oregon, so that she would have the option to die on her own terms. She was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Thing is, I've had patients express suicidal thoughts and the first time it happened, I asked my supervisor what it was about and she told me "control." That instead of the disease ending the person's life -- the patient ended their own life. It's a lot to think about and discuss. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Oh good, I'm glad I'm all caught up (and I will get around to reading and reviewing your fanfic soon!)

"Right-to-die" movement is about whether or not a person with terminal illness should be given the right to end their own life. This is around physician-assisted suicide, euthanasia. Some states permit it (Oregon). Hospice isn't about hastening or slowing down a person's death. Iit's about giving them comfort (medical, emotional, spiritual) as they go through all the stages--as they decline due to their illness, when they are "actively dying" or in the dying process", and finally, to give that patient a peaceful death. At the same time, doing the best to ensure that person's quality of life when they are alive.

A patient once asked me and a nurse about giving him lethal injection. We had to tell him that we don't give our patients lethal injection. He was afraid of declining and being a burden to his wife. That's a common fear among many (but not all) patients.

You did a great job of making it very interesting and comical. LOL Yes, some philosophy books can be a dry read, but you had a unique tone in your writing, and a great way of tying it into "Liar Liar." Learning is definitely best when done in a fun way.

Before I get into the whole "right to die" thing...am I missing any of your messages? I keep thinking there's more to respond to...but maybe I'm all caught up?

I read your essay about Kant and the ethics of lying. You did a great job in applying it to the movie "Liar, Liar". The links you provided were helpful especially the YouTube video about Kant that breaks down his philosophical thoughts. I also have to say that you have a unique writing voice in the essay and certain parts made me laugh. I'm not sure if that's what you were going for, but the essay definitely made me smile, especially this line:

"It shouldn't take you long to realize that following Kant's ethics will seriously impact your ability to throw shade." <--This was awesome!!

I just now read the link about the philosophy of suicide. It was very fascinating to see all the different takes on it. The last one "the right to die" has come up with hospice before, but we don't do euthanasia and in New York, physican-assisted suicide is illegal. We can discuss more if you like. Very good read though with diverse views about being for and against suicide.

Thank you for checking in! It's been a busy week. My friend ( the one who got me hooked on TWD) just gave birth to her first daughter....my 2nd goddaughter. Other stuff is happening with family. I'm behind in my writing/reading/reviewing fanfiction. How about you?

LOL your cousin is funny! My family and I managed to squeeze into the dining room. My boyfriend was there and my cousin came in from Michigan - he drove 12 hours to New York to be with us. I totally get what your cousin is saying. It really feels like you take a few bites and that's it. I didn't know you had diabetes. That was great that your family got you a separate 2 liter diet soda so that you can enjoy. I love eggnog and I had a little. Silk (the ones who make soy, almond, and other kinds of milk) make a brand of egg nog. Maybe you can try it?

Absolutely--it's a real day where you eat as much as you want and enjoy. I ate a lot--I tried to take a little bit of everything--and managed to have two plates! I still have leftovers! Do you? Those potatoes must've been super good for them to be gone so quickly!

That sounds delicious! I had the same as you had and also baked mac n cheese, sweet potatoes with marshnallows on top, corn pudding, and more. I was stuffed and then some! I tried to eat dessert and managed a brownie, coconut custard pie, and pumpkin mousse before my stomach said "enough"! That's awesome you went to the range! Good times! <3
