That was a great article. I find myself feeling the same way: I was proven wrong re: Trump winning the elections, so now I hope he will prove me wrong about him as a person. Only time will tell.

Absolutely: there are more good people than bad, and some voted for him, as your friend did, for political/economical reasons. There are infinity number of reasons why people vote as they do.

I agree that it's more sensible and more would be done by people talking with each other: not fighting each other. I feel the same way: I don't like riots. If the protest I went to had become a riot, I would've left very fast. I want no part of violence. Peaceful protests are good. Riots add to the problem.

Yeah, I was amazed when my friend told me that. Thank you! I'd love to do the book! I'd have to do research on how to do it. That's a great idea to keep track of quotes and then when you look back, you see how much you've grown as a person, you see where you were at and where you are going.

I support peaceful protests. My friend and I celebrated our birthdays last Saturday. On the way to the restaurant, we went to Union Square in NYC where a peaceful protest was heading to the Trump Towers (TT). After lunch, we went to the TT. It was barricaded and it will probably be for the next four years. I took tons of pics. I haven't posted them on Facebook as I don't want to offend friends and family members who are Trump supporters. I was going to post them on here. I declined for the same reason. If you're interested in seeing them, let me know. If not, that's okay. I saw one person get arrested that day (maybe it happened to more people), but for the most part it was peaceful. One Trump supporter got in a child's face because the father had brought them to the protest. A Clinton supporter got in his face really fast. I wrote about it in the Trump thread in the Debate forum.

I'm going to respond to the rest of your messages later as I gotta get ready for work. :-)

What I find interesting is when you talk to people individually why people voted for who they voted for. The reasons are diverse. One of my closest friends almost crossed party lines to vote for Hillary, but voted for Trump in honor of her deceased father. Her father died over a year ago and last time he went to vote, he was unable to because the lines were so long (he was waiting for 3 hours) and he wasn't feeling well. So to honor his memory, she voted for Trump to give her father a voice. I totally respect that. I want to start a book gathering quotes from people about who they voted for and why, even if they didn't vote--why that is.

Agreed: riots don't help anyone. And it definitely would make those who voted for Trump think "hmmm, looks like I voted for the right person." Rioting doesn't help anyone or change anything. I agree that most of those who voted for Trump, voted for him because they felt that he was the better candidate than Hillary. Are some racist and sexist? Yes, I'm sure some are, but certainly not all of them. Are there pockets of hateful people (Nazis etc) in America...yes, I believe they are, and some are down South, some are North, East, West...they're out there, but I agree with you that the country isn't 100% racist.

When will you get the results of your environmental test? Chemical equations baffle me too. It's why after I was done in Chemistry in 11th grade, I avoided Physics like the plague in 12th grade. We were given the option at my high school to take it/not take it---I opted out! :-)

I'm going to try to be optimistic like your Mom and hope that Trump learns. I don't think he will, but then again, maybe he might turn around and surprise everyone. Time will tell.

We're definitely on the same page when it comes to that topic. "I think it's imperative to judge a person for who they are, not the faith they follow or what political side they consider themselves to be on." <-- Very well said. If every single person thought this way...what a difference it would make.

That's so true about the cooking differences. I love my arroz con pollo (rice with chicken), just as much as I love latkes (potato pancakes.)

It's funny (and sometimes sad) what parents l argue/debate about. Sometimes it's petty, other times it's not. I'm glad my parents didn't let their differences totally tear them apart, same with yours.

That dream sounds very funny. I have to watch both the first and second Purge. Now that you mention it, I'll have to read the links you gave me about Kant and your journal entry you sent me. I'll see about getting to it this week. I think it's great that you can see the movie from various views--ethics, philosophy.

Okay, these are my Pinterest boards...I need to add to them. My Shane board has tons of pins...I made one for social work, God is Love, Scorpio, and kittens/cats. I've been meaning to make more...https://www.pinterest.com/sassysteph18/

That's okay, it'll probably be on cable very soon. Yeah, it would be interesting to see how you relate to it and I do remember you told me that one of your siblings has special needs.

You're welcome! I'm sure you did well on the exam. True or False definitely can be easy or difficult. Try not to doubt yourself. It's been said that your first answer is usually the right one.

Yes, and very well said: that when someone doesn't respect the presidency on either side--it's a huge disservice. Well, that's a good upside-that your mother can keep her guns especially with the right to bear arms. I wonder if he will learn to be a politician, if that's even possible.

You're welcome. "Suffragette" is about the suffrage movement in Britain -- they were more militant and used extreme tactics like throwing rocks at windows, blowing up garbage cans. I'm all for women having the right to vote, but I don't agree or condone their tactics. They were doing it because they felt they weren't being heard or taken seriously, but still... "Ironed Jawed Angels" is about the suffrage movement in the United States. They have the full movie on YouTube.

Unfortunately, this election is driving apart some families and friends. I made a comment on here about Trump supporters kicking themselves after Trump runs this country into the ground right after it came out that he won. I wish I hadn't said that now because it may've alienated friends on here who did vote for him--and they had every right to do that just as I had a right to vote Clinton. So sometimes those differences do cause issues, although for myself I do my best to love my family and friends as who they are to me first in my life--not based on their political views. I think of it like this: my family and friends have been there for me through thick and thin: not Hillary and not Trump. I need to focus on my love for my family and friends not on their right to disagree with me politically or personally.

Wow. That is awful to be asked those questions, to make it sound like you alone can speak for everyone person who is of a certain ethnic or religious group. You can only speak for yourself and as you said, you wore the headscarf to please your father because you were very close to him. It's not right or fair for anyone to box you in, as you said, just because of one aspect of your identity. I love that you are mixed! I am too--my father is White -- German, Russian and Jewish (my father doesn't follow Judaism) -- and my mother is Puerto Rican. I've had my share of experiences being of mixed ethnicity and it sounds like you have too.

I love that too. When growing up, my parents saw religion and politics on complete opposite spectrums --Dad being a Democrat/Liberal and Mom being a Republican/Conservative. Although it has created distance between them at times, and tension, they have managed to stay married for 35+ years because they love and respect each other.

Wait--you had a dream about Clinton and Trump purging together? That they were on the same side?! I haven't seen The Purge yet, but now, I must see it because of your dream! Please dream some more! :-) It sounds weird, but intriguing.

By the way--did you see my message about the new album I made? "For the Love of Shane Walsh"? I don't know if you can add pics to it, but if you can, feel free to do so. :-) I also have a Pintrest board dedicated to Shane. And I'm writing more Shane fic!

And....I saw Jon Berthal's new movie "The Accountant." I liked it a lot, and interestingly enough he was playing the role of a sibling of someone with special needs--which is something I can totally relate to. Except I became a social worker, and not an assassin. ;-)

Oh okay, you're getting there. Congrats on your 100 for the math exam! That's awesome! A "B" for Essential Math 1 is still very good!

I liked Clinton more than Trump. I wish someone else who really respected the presidency had been chosen to run on the Republican side. I understand feeling that you didn't like either candidate and that you didn't want to vote and felt relief that you weren't of age to do so. At the same time, I believe that it's important to vote. When you can vote--I would strongly encourage you to do so. When I vote, I'm thinking of the women and men who fought for my right to do so because there was a time when women didn't have a voice during elections. I love movies like "Suffragette" and "Iron Jawed Angels". I also minored in Women's Studies in college. I used to be very passionate about it and even identified myself as a feminist. It had nothing to do with hating men. It made me appreciate being a woman and what different women struggle with.

I agree 100% that it's awful that Muslims who are very good and kind, are mistreated due to the actions of extremists in their faith. (The other intern in my 2nd year field placement was a Muslim. We used to have great talks about our different faiths.) Every religion has a wide-spectrum of people who follow: those who are truly trying to live out their faith, others who are extreme, and everything in between. What you said wasn't insulting, you just explained why you were unable to continue following the Islamic faith. Finding one's faith is a journey, it sounds like you have already embarked on this journey for the long haul.

I also find that sometimes the way God is described in various religious texts--sometimes people interpret in their own way. There's extreme Christians that interpret God as being hateful towards LGBTQ population and I don't believe God hates them--I believe He loves them as He loves you and me.

Yep, he won. *Sigh*. That's interesting that you had no dreams or nightmares about it. My friend who got me into TWD told me she had a dream about it: Clinton was called back because of the states had it wrong with the electoral collage, and she really was the new president. I wish that was the reality, but it is what it is. I'm (slowly) getting over the shock that Trump won. I agree with you that this election was more about the lesser of two evils, and that for many people, including your aunt, neither candidate was acceptable.

I saw the video you sent me. It was funny, but also a real eye-opener. The person who made it is also an ex-Muslim. I thought that was very interesting.

Thank you for understanding. Yes, life is definitely like that. I enjoy keeping contact with my friends. LOL I'm sure that's how it is--one course after another. When do you graduate?

Thank you! It was on the 8th, and honestly, I was hoping that my 35th birthday would be the day that the first woman president was elected into office. I appreciate your thoughts...I'm finding happiness being with my family and friends, my new boyfriend.... I'm relieved it's over too. I mean, it will continue to some extent, but I'm glad we finally know who's our next president even if he's not the one I voted for. I'm proud that New York State was (and usually is) a blue state.

      You're very welcome! <3
