Almost my birthday, can't believe how fast time is going @ShaneFan Apr 30, 2017

Definitely scary to live in a world like that. In TWD, that mindset of "every man for himself" is so prevalent because of the brutal nature of the world--"kill or be killed." I agree with you that it can be very easy to fall into that mindset--especially when your faced with death every waking moment. I think some characters, it becomes who they are...such as with the Terminites killings others for their own survival. When Shane had that mindset--it's either me or Otis--his decision haunted him later. And I think for some characters, it was who they were before the ZA, but now living in the ZA--it's amplified--this can be the case with Negan.

BTW, I'll have to search again for that Shane "fic" about applying psychological theories to his character and actions. I looked on my favorites list on FFN and couldn't find it at all. Maybe the writer took it down... :-(

That's okay--send it to me next time!

These cookies sound delicious. What kind id you make? Did you save me any? :-) I made banana chocolate chip walnut muffins on Sunday that me and my friend had (along with shrimp ceviches, coconut rice, and black beans for dinner) on the night of the premier.

It sounds like you're a night owl. I'm the same way, although now that I'm older, it seems I can't get away with it as much as I did during my college days. I'll feel more tired the next day, but I love the night! LOL that's okay that you felt like the smartest person in the world--at age 12 to write 5 paragraphs on philosophy does show dedication and intelligence. Even if the topic has been done a thousand times--or a million times--it's great to add your own take to it!

No problem! Take your time! I should be asleep, but the season premiere has me all wired up! I'm so glad you're up and about the forums again!

Oh okay...thank you for clearing that up. There are so many different types of philosophies!

Yes, that type of egoism...there are folks walking around who only live and think of themselves. But if we all did that, how could we keep the world going?

I gotta find you this Shane Walsh fic I found...it applied various psychological theories to his character!

Yes, I saw! I gotta write you back. Thank you very much for the links! I'll have to check them out. :-)

Oh okay, let me know what you think! A new experience---yes, I wanted to give you that pre-tip because what I did the first time was I opened the book in what for us would be the front cover and my friend told me I was doing it the wrong way. Then, Lo and Behold, there were actual instructions inside the manga! Wow, it sounds super popular where you are.

I wish the same thing too...that someone else had died or that his death was ambiguous, giving him a chance to return. Shane, I miss you, Shane. :-)

Thank you--I need all the luck I can get!

So glad to hear from you! Yeah, the manga is 12 volumes---very fast to read through. Have you read manga before? It reads form right to left. They give instructions in it. The anime sticks very closely to it. The one thing that's changed is the ending. Yes, I saw your messages! I have to respond and also finish beta'ing your fic. I saw the tag also in the Shane thread. I hope to catch up on post topics tonight. I've been way behind---with yours and Rapscallion's fanfic, TWD MadLibs, and other topics. :-) That pic of Jon with the beard...I wonder if Shane would look like that he were still alive in TWD?

You're very welcome! I saw your message on FF. I still have to beta your fic and give you my thoughts. I'll be on vacation next week so I'll have some more time. No rush on Death Note. There's the manga series (12 volumes) and the anime -- 37 episodes. Since you like philosophy and psychology, I think you'll enjoy it. I can understanding wanting to finish something first before you start something new. I have many things to finish--but I can tell you I'm all caught up with all 6 TWD seasons! :-)

One last thing: this news is inaccurate. "Hospice is for the actively dying." The reporter threw around this phrase as if they know what it actually means (they got it right with the 6 month prognosis). I can tell you honestly that this patient in the video, at the time it was made, is not actively dying. She's alert, talking, and answering questions fully. A hospice patient entering the dying process, has increased sleep, confusion, disorientation, incontinence, their appetite has decreased: they may eat very little or nothing at all. A patient who is "actively dying" -- their breathing patterns change, they can no longer swallow, they can hear you, but may not be able to respond to you, sometimes it's difficult to rouse them from their sleep. A patient also has increased restlessness and agitation. Here's a link that describes the different phases: http://www.hospicepatients.org/hospic60.html and terminal agitation: http://www.hospicepatients.org/terminal-agitation.html

As for the doctor in the video: I understand what he's saying, but at the same time, I can't completely agree with him. And yes, he's a hospice doctor, and he's right, it's a judgement call. I don't agree fully with him because you can't just say someone is a hospice patient when their condition is questionable. What a lot of people don't realize is that hospices are governed by Medicare -- it's their criteria that hospices go by. Although my hospice takes patients with Medicare, Medicaid, private insurances, and we even have patients on who can't afford care so we do sliding scale --there's still a criteria that keeps a patient on. Other hospices who have kept patients on much longer who aren't considered terminally ill anymore...they've been shut down by Medicare. This happened to San Diego Hospice back in 2013.

Above is the link I was telling you about. I read the article and watched the video. I saw the blue folder that we give our patients and families. Honestly, if this woman is alive two years after being given the prognosis of 6 months or less to live...then she's not considered appropriate for hospice. It's wonderful that she's lived longer than expected, but I can understand (and witness firsthand) how patients and families can become upset when discharged. At the same time...I'm not sure if I believe what the daughter is saying here. I'm not on this team, but I know myself and the nurse educate about discharge and also give referrals to other medical providers so that a patient can still continue to receive care, even if not on hospice. There are house call programs out there where a doctor or nurse can visit a patient whose unable to see their primary doctor.

Hey there! I got your message on FFN and I'll write you a little later. But yes, send me your fanfic. I'd be happy to beta it for you.

You're welcome! No worries, the fic will be there for awhile. Take your time. Yes, I've definitely noticed that. I think it's 'cause we know what we intend to write, so when we read our work over again, we just fill in the word automatically--whereas another person's writing, it will stand out.

I've been on a Rick Grimes/Shane Walsh fanfic craze. I started yet another fic about them. About Rick thinking about Shane when he's in the ASZ.

You're welcome! Aww okay--I know how the libraries close early. Look forward to hearing your responses. I resent "Spiral"...I'm worried that I"m being repetitive...and I wrote more Shane fanfic! :-) Let me know if you'd like to read/review any of your work or anything you're working on!

Hey, I'm glad you passed! I *hate* math...it's why I decided not to be a meteorologist. It takes time to see the mistakes in math. Sometimes they jump out, and other times, it takes time. That's good that you do it on a separate paper.

Black holes and hyper-velocity stars are very interesting. Especially black holes--so mysterious. If you do decide to write about hospice, feel free to ask me anything and if needed, I'll send you more links. Electricity in the human body should be good too.
Dinosaurs are truly awesome. I loved them as a kid too.

This week was sooooo overwhelming at work. My team's census skyrocketed--we usually have 50-60 patients...this week we hit 90 patients. Everyone on the team was feeling burned out. I'm sure next week will be okay though. It's like that...because of how hospice is, the census goes up and down. I needed that MadLib for the laughs.

Thank you---I need to really get focused again because I fell off (again).

How did it go for your new assignment about the weather? The weather is fascinating. Does it flashflood often where you live? Meteorology is awesome! That was my passion before social work. :-) That's a good idea to handwrite it before you send it in. It's okay mistakes will happen. Sometimes reading it aloud helps.

I enjoy doing things out of the ordinary too. The historical museum must've been fascinating. Modern technology is great and who knows what's in store for the future. Imagine how it will be 50 years from now...when things like the IPhone6 and Tablet will be probably be outdated...just like record players, the huge old radios they had in the 40s and 50s. Technology is always moving fast.

This week I went roller-skating twice and to my friend's exercise class. My goal is to be more active so that I have more energy, lose a few lbs and feel better about myself. I have times where I'm really active and other times where I'm not, so I'm doing my best to get on track again.
