I liked Luke and he seemed genuine to me, but I agree with you about the Eugene personality. I think there was a deliberate moment there. A few episodes ago Eugene talked about recipes for luxury food items like Gazpacho, and now over the years he has become more practical and talks of stew, while the new guy talks about more exotic foods, the same way Eugene used to. I thought it was a neat moment. Eugene even explained the practicality, talking about how stew gets more mileage with such a large group of people.

The weird thing is, Luke's dialogue and crying during the council meeting was understandable given the context of the situation, but it felt as though it was delivered in a way weirdly reminiscent of Carol's initial experience at Alexandria. Especially his comment about still being a music teacher. Bruh, it's been 10 years, you're definitely not a music teacher!! Haha
That just felt like some cheesy answer undercover Carol would have given back then.

It felt like a facade. Although, him being overly emotional and chatty could have been exacerbated by how stoic and calm the rest of his crew was.

His scenes with Magna about the knife helped a lot, but I'll be keeping an eye on him.

I agree some of his conduct was a bit unnatural, like immediately talking about culinary arts while still out of breath running from walkers, but I didn't see it as a facade. I saw it more like we have a bit of an eccentric and weird dude here, who has probably been eccentric and weird his entire life, and the apocalypse hasn't changed that. Plus when you view the scene in the house with Magna's group talking among themselves, you can see there is no deception going on with Luke. He scolded Magna for taking the concealed weapon and backed up Connie for saying we need to just accept our fate and do right by these people

Yeah, I JUST finished my second viewing. Luke felt way more grounded during that scene in the house with Magna. Also, him thanking Judith at the end was a nice step toward him winning me over.

I guess he might be eccentric, but still gotta keep that eye on him. Looks like they won't get a chance to meet Negan after all (or at least anytime soon). I completely forgot Michonne is escorting them to Hilltop

I think I am in the minority here. I was kind of meh with the new group.

I really liked the deaf woman and the kid translator. They seem very cool.

The woman in the hospital is an unknown but I will give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she's cool.

I definitely didnt love the music teacher. He seemed like he was WAY overacting to me and it didnt work.

And Magna I hated. That whole tough girl I aint gonna take no crap routine has gotten SO overplayed imo throughout the years. It felt really forced and annoying to me.

I'll keep an open mind but initially I could take them or leave them.

Well, there's really not a lot out there that deserve fans anyway, but you HAVE to see Night of the living dead & Dawn of the dead. They're not just good zombie movies, they're GREAT movies. And you're such a fan of TWD, gotta respect the source of the modern zombie.

There's a few other zombie films that are fun, but nothing gets close to these two. And make sure to see the originals - the remakes are ok, but doesn't have the cultural resonance the originals have.

I saw one of those movies, lets just say it was the 80's LOL. Midnight movie, high school, I guess about 20 of us went, sat next to Shannon Walker (how ironic), he was drunk, puked on the floor, I ran....that is all I remember

You don't remember what movie it was? In theaters in the 80s... My guess is Return of the living Dead (85). Horror/comedy, pretty fun stuff.

It was a midnight showing and I think it had something to do with a mall? Def not 1985, more circa 81 or 82

The Midnight After is a movie you'll either love or hate. Its not a zombie movie, its an apocalypse movie, where a group of strangers on a bus in the middle of the night go through a long tunnel to discover they are seemingly the last people alive on earth when they come out the other side.

Its a very noisy type movie, and its dubbed, so best listened to on a lower volume. I personally loved it. A couple of my friends thought it was the worst thing they ever watched. It has almost a David Lynch feel too it, where things might be metaphors for something else, and not everything is what it seems. I agree its polarizing and if you don't enjoy dubbed movies you'll absolutely hate it cause its a lot of reading fast dialogue.

Well, the mall is Dawn of the Dead (1978), the best zombie movie ever!!! I guess it could have been a special screening.
